Specialists say this might be the tip of the iceberg

In Missouri and throughout the mid west hundreds of children are being admitted to hospitals due to a respiratory virus. Ten states so far have contacted the CDC asking for help, these states include : Colorado, North Carolina, Georgia, Ohio, Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Kentucky. As the peak of the season approaches the sudden out break isn't all that unusual. Enteroviruses which bring on very severe cold symptoms seem to be the culprit. 15 % of kids admitted are being admitted into intensive care, up to 30 children a day are coming into Missouri hospital. This particular type of enterovirus, EV-D68 is uncommon, but not new.It was first identified in the 1960s and there has been fewer than 100 reported cases since then. As of now there is no cure. The Ev-D68 virus can contribute to a fatality however none of the Missouri cases ended in death.
